Rustproof Treasures: Selfless love and Trust in Friendship
I like your comments about the difference between "love" and "being loved." Love is really the love that God had for us (when we were still at enmity against God) - completely selfless. If we are always expecting to be loved in return, we will always be waiting for our friend to put in his or her half of the arrangement, and do something for us in return for our actions of love. This kind of 50 - 50 relationship does not work! Instead of waiting for the other person in the relationship to put in their half, we should be giving of ourselves 100%. When each person in the relationship gives 100%, it is a beautiful relationship. Neither person is ever waiting for the other person to contribute, but each person is only loving with all their heart.

Why Rustproof Treasures?
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
~ Matthew 6:19-21
