Alright to expand on some thoughts that I received from the reading the text:
Just like Tamar first pointed out, What amazing selfless love! What a great example of the second table of the law, "Love your neighbor as yourself"!
Continuously throughout the section you find the phase he loved him refering to Jonathan and David. What I noticed was that God's Word always using the active verb throughout this section. Not once do we find in this text that David was loved by Jonathan.
What I'm trying to get at is an area that I struggle with, too often in this world we refer to the word "love", but actually we mean the phase "being loved". The emphasis I find being made here is that we shouldn't go searching for someone to show their love to us. In any kind of relationship, the focus should not be made on me being loved, but on me loving the other person. Sometimes I need to look at my actions, instead of focusing on how someone else is treating me. We want to produce fruits of faith by obeying the commands from the Lord and from our fruits, there are many blessings.
On a different note, I thought that this section showed a good example of Trust. David continued to show His trust in the Lord. It amazing how many times David's life was threatened, but as long as he remained faithful to the Lord he was not harmed. What a dramatic difference that was for Saul after his soul was hardened and turned away from the Lord. David also shows his trust in Jonathan. The Lord used Jonathan to protect David's life so that the Lord's plans would be fufilled for David to be in line of Christ and to also become King of Isreal. It's comforting to know that the Lord's has plans for us too. May we continue to show our trust in the Lord.

Why Rustproof Treasures?
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
